Privacy policy
Last updated 18 October 2026
Icy Weasel does not collect, store or share any information about you. The developer has no servers that receive data from the app, no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising. There is no account to create.
What stays on your Mac
Your history, bookmarks, open tabs and settings are saved only on your Mac, inside the app's private storage. Website data such as cookies is kept by Apple's WebKit in the same place. Private windows keep nothing once they close. You can clear history at any time from the History window, and removing the app removes all of it.
Saved passwords
Passwords you choose to save are stored in your Mac's login keychain, encrypted by macOS. They are never sent anywhere, and are filled only into the site they were saved for, when you click the key in the address bar. Private windows never save passwords.
Connections the browser makes on its own
Besides the websites you visit, Icy Weasel connects to these services. None of them receive your browsing history.
- Filter list publishers (easylist.to, ublockorigin.github.io, pgl.yoyo.org, secure.fanboy.co.nz, and filters.adtidy.org if you turn on an AdGuard list), to download blocking rules about once every three days. They see a normal download request from your network address.
- Apple's fraudulent website warning, the same protection Safari uses. WebKit checks pages against a list of known phishing and malware sites in a way that does not reveal the full addresses you visit.
- Your chosen search engine, only when you search from the address bar. Its own privacy policy applies to your searches. Address-bar suggestions come from your own history and bookmarks, so nothing you type is sent before you press Return.
The page assistant
The optional assistant answers questions about the page you're reading. By default it uses AI models running on your own Mac, such as Ollama or Bonsai, at local addresses, and nothing leaves your computer.
If you add a cloud AI provider in Settings with your own API key, the text of the page you ask about and your questions are sent to that provider when you use one of its models. The assistant asks for your permission before the first time, always shows where the page is going, and never uses cloud models in private windows. That provider's privacy policy applies to what it receives. Your API key is stored in your macOS keychain and sent only to that provider, over an encrypted connection. The developer of Icy Weasel never receives any of it.
Children
Icy Weasel collects no information from anyone, including children.
