Privacy Policy
Kinoglot
Effective 25 September 2026
Kinoglot is made by Perseus Sepahi, an independent developer. This policy covers the Kinoglot app for macOS.
The short version
Kinoglot does not collect your data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. I have no servers that receive anything from the app.
What stays on your Mac
- The videos, audio and subtitle files you open.
- Subtitles Kinoglot generates or translates, and where you stopped watching. They are saved in the app's own folder on your Mac so they come back when you reopen a video.
- Your settings, and how much of the free AI time you have used.
- API keys you enter, which are stored in your Mac's Keychain.
Speech recognition runs on your Mac with Whisper. Your audio is not uploaded when you use it.
When Kinoglot connects to the internet
Kinoglot only connects to other services for things you ask it to do:
- Downloading speech models. Whisper models are downloaded from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) when you choose to download one.
- Cloud providers you choose. If you pick OpenAI, Groq, Anthropic, Google Gemini or another provider and enter your own API key, Kinoglot sends the audio (for transcription) or subtitle text (for translation) directly from your Mac to that provider. That data is handled under the provider's own privacy policy. It never passes through me.
- Ollama or your own server. If you use Ollama or a server you run, Kinoglot talks to it on your Mac or your network.
- Streams you open. When you open a link, Kinoglot connects to that address to play it.
Each of these services can see the ordinary information any internet connection carries, such as your IP address.
Purchases
Kinoglot Pro is sold through the Mac App Store. Apple handles the payment; I don't receive your payment details or your identity. The app checks your purchase on your Mac using Apple's signed receipts. Apple's privacy policy applies to App Store purchases.
If you bought a licence key directly from my website instead, activating it sends the key and your Mac's name to the licence service so the key can be tied to your Mac.
Crash reports
If you choose to share analytics with app developers in macOS settings, Apple may send me anonymous crash reports. You can turn this off at any time in System Settings.
Children
Kinoglot does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
